Research Pin Points Core Competitive Advantages

Under the leadership of new managing director Philip Smedley and his team, Bird Stevens are using the results of a customer survey to ensure that the company continues to thrive in its core businesses, metal pressings and sheetmetal work.
The company recently carried out research to establish how it has survived increasing overseas competition in recent years, while so many others have failed. The results highlighted several factors, including: a wide product base; a combination of traditional and modern skills; flexibility; creative engineering and willingness to work in partnership with customers during the product development stage through to ongoing production.
To build upon these very positive findings, the company is introducing new IT systems and placing more emphasis on marketing. Working closely with the engineering team, recently appointed Oliver Lawrence will be responsible for developing the new marketing initiative.
"We are building upon our strengths to develop an approach that is difficult to match, particularly for those based overseas", says Philip Smedley.
