Complex Acrylic Manifold Assemblies Machined

Using a technique known as diffusion bonding, Carville Ltd, Surrey, can produce complex manifold assemblies without the use of solvents or adhesives. This manufacturing technique ensures that "lab on a chip" type applications have minimal interconnects, are free from leaks and offer greater reliability.

The first diffusion bonded acrylic manifold produced by Carville was for a Ciba Corning blood analyser in the early 1980's. An industry first, this manifold was a simple two piece construction with 1.50mm internal tracks and interconnects. Since then, Carville has developed a new range of manufacturing techniques which allow complex multi-layer manifolds to be produced with track sizes down to 0.15mm. These manifolds are ideally suited to applications where samples and reagents may be in limited supply.

Carville Ltd specialises in the heat treatment, machining, bonding and polishing of acrylic and other nonferrous materials. These materials are used in the manufacture of manifolds and other complex components for the medical and biotech sectors.
