Five Year Contract Won for Engineering Services to UK Research Labs
01 Sep 2004
In June Acrona Engineering, Oxfordshire, won a five year contract to become one of the few engineering companies selected by the Central Laboratory of Research Councils (CCLRC), to provide a wide range of general manufacture, assembly and testing work. This success is the crowning point of Acrona's 10 year transition into a prestigious workshop that specializes in one offs and small batch work, where no machine is more than three years old.
The CCLRC is one of Europe's largest multidisciplinary research organisations. It operates world-class large-scale research facilities, and manages international research projects in support of a broad cross-section of the UK research community.
Acrona believes CCLRC was looking for a high quality local company with the necessary skills and experience. The tendering process involved a site visit that gave Acrona the opportunity to present its collection of latest technology Hurco machines with comprehensive CNC milling and turning capabilities which are all CAD/CAM driven with Pathtrace software.
The contract involves liaising with scientists at various locations in the UK to turn their 'wish lists' for research equipment into engineering specifications, and then to work the designs up into prototypes and finished articles.
Acrona supplies components and assemblies to a diverse range of industries some of which include cryogenics, medical, nuclear, orthopaedic, F1 motor sports, marine, electronic and food processing.
