Leading 5-axis Machinist Enhances Capacity for Milling Large Impellers

Earlier this year, Turbocam Europe, a leading specialist in 5-axis machining with a core competency in 5-axis milling, took delivery of the latest Hermle C40U machining centre. The company supplies impellers to major aerospace and industrial turbomachinery projects in Europe, and is part of a group of companies that also develops and sells specialized software for 5-axis machining.
The Hermle C40U is very fast and accurate and can manufacture parts up to 700mm in diameter. It allows Hampshire based Turbocam Europe, to extend its 5-axis machining capability in terms of both work-piece size and speed of throughput. This additional machine increases the company's number of 5-axis machines to eight in the UK and fifty worldwide in the Turbocam Group.
Unusually for a worldwide group of companies, the flag of corporate social responsibility is run high up Tubocam's metaphoric flagpole. The Group is committed to integrity in its business and personal relationships, and its mission statement (to exist as a business for the purpose of honouring God, creating wealth for its employees, and supporting Christian service to God and people) has guided company policy and behaviour throughout the Group's expansion from 25 people in 1993 to over 150 in 2004. Though Turbocam is held privately, its skilled and motivated employees act as if they own the company, and staff turnover is corresponding low.
TURBOCAM's engineers have experience in machining, metallurgy, aerodynamics, geometric modelling and analysis, and software. Markets served include: Propulsion (aero engine, rocketry, marine); Power generation (gas and steam turbines); as well as a large cross section of industry that uses turbocharger compressors and gas compressor impellers.
