The Manufacturer of the Year awards were presented on 15 September at a gala dinner during The Manufacturer Live 2004, a major industry showcase of best practice held at the Telford International Centre. The results of the latest GTMA survey of toolmakers, for second quarter 2004, confirms a marked rise in material costs, with 56% of responders saying that prices have risen since 1Q2004 and 88% reporting increases since 2Q2003.

As part of its long-term growth strategy, European Trade & Exhibition Services (ETES), organisers of the UK's six successful regional manufacturing exhibitions, is launching three new product centres at Southern Manufacturing, Thorpe Park, Surrey, 16-17 February 2005, that will benefit exhibitors and visitors alike. The Machine Tool Centre, Subcontracting Centre and Used Machinery & Equipment and Live Auction Centre, will be introduced into all subsequent exhibitions.
