Miyano Flies from Japan to Meet Urgent Demands

Burgeoning orders for close tolerance aerospace industry components have led precision turning specialist, APT Leicester Ltd to purchase its third Miyano BNJ 42 S CNC fixed head lathe in the past 12 months. As well as providing welcome additional high speed CNC turning capacity at the company's Groby, Leicester site, the latest machine was needed so urgently that it had to be flown in from Japan just to meet APT's production demands.

The new lathe is suitable for components up to 42mm diameter and is operated in conjunction with an IEMCA short bar feeder; reflecting the equipment's primary use on stainless steel, Inconel or titanium.

Like all other APT production machines, it is fully equipped for unattended or 'lights-out' operation.

This latest £100,000 investment brings APT's compliment of Miyano equipment up to seven fixed head lathes and two drill / tap machining centres. In addition, the company operates a total of seven Star sliding head lathes - enabling it to offer one of the most comprehensive and costeffective services for precision turned parts in the country.

APT's managing director, David Bailey, says: "The Miyanos are ideally suited to our requirements, with high metal removal rates combined with extreme accuracy and versatility. They also complement the capabilities of our other manufacturing equipment, allowing us to produce in a single cycle, the kinds of parts that most other suppliers require secondary machine operations to complete."
