'Heavyweight' Lathe Muscles in for Oil Work
01 Dec 2005
The first Harrison Alpha 1800S manual/CNC lathe with centre distance of four metres to be supplied in the UK, is helping Summit Precision Engineering of Solihull to manufacture high precision components for the oil and gas industry.
Within four weeks of its installation, Summit has already placed a further order for another large Alpha 1800S, but this time with a three metre centre distance and a 120mm spindle bore as opposed to the 170mm on the larger machine.
This lathe, which offers an even higher spindle speed, will add further flexibility when turning small- to medium-size batches of large components.
Andrew Dowler, managing director, stated that with this increased production capacity and new markets, a 60% growth is expected over the next two years.
