Press Brake Contractor Takes Good Care of Staff
01 Feb 2005
Press brake contractor, Deepdale Engineering Co Ltd in Dudley, West Midlands, has introduced a new Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) for its staff. Few traditional engineering companies have woken up to the advantages these type of benefits packages provide for their blue-collared employees, and consequently to their clients through employee loyalty and improved productivity.
"We are a traditional Midland's engineering firm, " said Deepdale's John Marsh. "It is a family run business and we are reliant upon the loyalty of our employees, many of whom are long-serving members of the team whom we're on first name terms with. We like to look after our staff so our new Assistance Programme adds real value to the benefits we can offer to them."
Deepdale's EAP effectively manages staff issues outside of the workplace. All staff have direct access to a range of tools for modern living that inform on legal, financial and other matters, each of which adds considerably to staff welfare.
Employees can access expert help when needed. For example, assistance is given with locating child and dependant care, personal finance and debt counselling, plus advice on consumer law and benefits. Support is also available through life's more difficult times such as bereavement and relationship difficulties, each of which can have a detrimental affect on peoples' emotional wellbeing.
The EAP also improves well-being and personal development by providing new perspectives, skills development and life management strategies.
These schemes improve productivity because they are known to reduce absenteeism wherever it's a problem. They provide managers with access to specialist resources to help with health and safety, and employment legislation issues. They also effectively manage risk sensitive issues such as stress, bullying, and alcohol and drug related issues.
