Full Metals Information Database Service Due for Completion this Autumn
01 Feb 2005
In June 2004, the National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) added a search tool to its website for site visitors to search over 10,000 pages of metals related information in a single search. This initial trial service will be superseded when the full blown MI-21 (Metals Information for the 21st Century) project is completed later this year.
The outcome of a three year project, MI21 is being compiled by project partners World Metals Index, IoM3, TWI and Granta Design. It will cover selection and specification of metals and alloys, welding brazing and soldering consumables, stock forms and suppliers and national and international standards.
The database design has been completed. Data is currently being added and will include information such as chemical composition, mechanical properties and supplier details.
Dr Bob John, Director of Business Development for TWI Ltd said: "This exciting project will increase co-operation between the major providers of information on metals in the UK. It will produce an invaluable, unique source of data for industry."
