Photo ElectroForming Produced Watch Parts
01 Feb 2005
Weymouth based precision metal micro-part specialist, Tecan, used Photo ElectroForming (PEF) to produce two crucial parts for a new brand of luxury timepiece, designed to withstand extreme temperatures at both the North and South Poles.
Tecan produced a multi-level back-plate for the 'Polar Timepiece' watch face and a specialised multiaperture web like grid overlay representing the lines of longitude emanating from the poles. Both parts were in nickel and featured complex and highly-accurate facets.
PEF manufactures micro-parts to extremely small scale, with features such as apertures, fluidic channels or raised lands, down to 2 microns and tolerances at sub-micron levels. Tecan also uses PEF to produce larger parts, up to 600mm x 765mm.
