BTMA to Forge New Links and to Face Up to China
01 Jan 2005
Roger Innes, the new president of the BTMA (the UK Trade Association for Precision Turned Parts and Machined Component Manufactures) stated that he would continue the good work of his predecessor Fred Moser. The BTMA is keen to forge closer links with other UK manufacturers' associations and to support members supplying technologically advanced components abroad, even to China.
At his inauguration at the BTMA AGM in November, Mr Innes said he is keen to forge closer links with other associations working through the Engineering and Machinery Alliance (EAMA) to help boost the ability of UK manufacturers to compete in the global economy.
Daniel Bogla, columnist for the Financial Times, was invited to the AGM to discuss the building of the Chinese Economy and its relationship with the US Dollar. Mr Bogla said it was clear that China has a very fragile existence and any change in its economy would have a major impact on world markets. He said engineering in the UK should invest in new technology, and that BTMA members should not fear China, but should continue to develop expertise in the more technologically advanced components; possibly even supplying China with them.
The BTMA is currently investigating the possibility of taking members on a visit to China.
