Toolmaker Moves into Medical Components
01 Jul 2005
Leeds-based toolmaker Aire Erosion Ltd. has successfully made the move into the medical instrument sector, manufacturing instruments for hip, knee and spinal procedures as well as components for keyhole surgery.
This new company, formed in September 2000, employs 10 staff and has already invested in eight EDM machines - wire, sink and hole drillers - with a further major investment in a twin chuck milling/turning machine to support its new medical application projects.
When Aire Erosion took a close look at its customer profile it realised that the medical sector was core to the business and decided to concentrate resources on that area. The company has recently bought new, much larger premises, where it intends to install clean rooms and assembly areas.
Another new initiative has been the decision to join the Gauge and Toolmakers Association, following MD, Steve Batt's attendance at the recent GTMA Medical Seminar.
