Joining Skills Showcased for Aerospace Materials

At the AeroMat 2005 conference in Orlando earlier this month, TWI presented five papers. A week later, at the Paris Airshow, TWI showcased its latest developments in friction stir welding and laser processing.
This year's AeroMat Conference and Exposition (www.asminternational. org/ aeromat) featured over 40 technical sessions for those involved in materials and processing related to the aerospace sector. TWI's presentations included: Weldability of nickel alloys;
Composite to metal joining; Friction stir welding (two papers); and Weldpool control in TIG welding.
TWI's has provided linear friction welded blisks, friction stir welded rocket fuel tanks and welded thermoplastic airframe structures.
TWI can also assist with materials development, coatings technology, process modelling, life modelling, microfabrication and the performance and reliability of aircraft structures.
