Innovative Machining and Investment Reduce Costs

Paddock Gear and Engineering Ltd has already increased productivity by 50% on large gears of up to 1200mm diameter using its latest investment; a Liebherr LFS1200 CNC gear shaper. Over the past five years, the company has made a large investment in the latest technology machine tools and purpose-built premises to achieve a competitive edge in terms of in speed of turnaround, versatility and the size of components that can be machined (2 to 2000mm diameter).

The 50% increase in productivity achieved with the new gear shaper is due to the latest controls and the ability of the cutter to return five times faster than on older type machines. This new CNC shaper replaces five manual machines.

The Staffordshire based company specialises in the manufacture of large gears, and has noticed increased demand from heavy industries such as mining, power, and manufacturers of earthmoving equipment. Innovative, cost reducing, CNC machining techniques for complex gear cutting and jig boring, have resulted in Paddock winning many demanding contracts against substantial competition.
