Manufacturer Signed Up for Help to Re-Organise

When the South West MAS approached the Plymouth Manufacturers Group offering members the opportunity to take part in a business improvement programme employing 'Root Cause Problem Solving Methods', Alderman Tooling signed up for help. Its problem was how to move from the current configuration to manufacturing cells that would supply product more reliably and with a shorter leadtime.
Predominantly manufacturing engineers and toolmakers, Alderman Tooling offers a full service from press tool design, to parts production and sheet metal work, including CNC punching, laser and plasma profiling.
The company also undertake all types of welding, including stainless steel and aluminium; spot and stud welding, and brazing.
Prior to the programme, a company review had already identified the need for Alderman to re-organise the operations into product-focused manufacturing cells.
As a result of participating on the programme, the company implemented four manufacturing cells and continues to build on the layout derived from the program and also the Problem Solving Tools.
