CNC Purchases Press On
01 Mar 2005
In recent years GW Waite Ltd, the largest subcontract press shop in Cumbria, has made substantial investments with three CNC coil fed SMV presses (one 80t and two 125t), five high speed hydraulic Hare press (60t), projection welding machines (75kVA), and a Brown and Smart CMM.
Russell Waite, managing director of the family company that was established nearly 60 years ago, says:
''The SMV presses have become the workhorses of our production and have also enabled us to take on more demanding jobs, such as third tier automotive work, which dictate complicated 'progression tooling'. The investment in the HiSpeed Hare presses has allowed us to scrap off older mechanical presses when repairs become prohibitive. The flexibility and quick tool changeovers on the Hares have helped us to reduce inventory and increased operator satisfaction."
The Press Shop is supported by a well equipped Tool Room for tool repairs and modifications as well as the design and manufacture of new tooling.
All zinc metal finishing is done inhouse with an automatic barrel plating plant, which enables a complete service to be offered to customers.
Current capacity ranges from 5t to 125t with coils from 0.5mm to 3.0mm thick with a maximum width of 400mm in primarily mild steel, aluminium and stainless steel. The maximum depth on deep draw work in mild steel is 70mm.
