Upgraded Vertical Borer Contributed to 25% Sales Increase in 12 Months

Maple Worcester Ltd specialises in the reliable delivery of high quality, precision machined components and assemblies. The last 12 months has seen the company's sales increase by 25%. This growth is attributed to the success of new tooling projects with existing clients, and also to new business in the specialist area of turning large components.

The company began to expand its large machining capability two years ago. With substantial expertise and a wide range of equipment for CNC milling, boring and turning, Maple recognised that there was a general shortage of subcontract machining capacity for large components in the West Midlands area.

A reconditioned Webster & Bennett, CNC 72" vertical borer was purchased with a support grant from the Accelerate Programme, and within the past few months, the machine's drive control was upgraded to improve performance and machining speed. The machine has an elevated beam to 1200mm maximum height, and a swing of up to 2140mm.

Maple also recently purchased a Cincinnati Arrow, CNC Vertical Machining Centre (table size 1200x600mm), which will further expand its capacity for milling and drilling large components.

The Company has attracted machining work from new customers including: manufacturers of components for heavy vehicles, and heating gas burners.
