Skills Training Adds Value In High Quality, Low Volume, Marketplace
01 May 2005
Recent investment in skills training at Birmingham sheet metal fabricator Rojac Engineering has resulted in 100% of shop floor staff passing NVQ level two in 'Shopfloor Practice' and 'Health and Safety', in addition to specialist training for specific operations.
The training was provided with local government funding and has helped to maintain the high quality of work by raising awareness of best practice, and encouraging individuals to use their initiative to find better ways of working.
As a specialist in high quality, low volume work in expensive materials, Rojac can manufacture virtually any component or assembly (up to 5t) out of ferrous and non ferrous materials.
The company uses the latest version of three dimensional CAD/CAM, 'Metal Soft' for traceability and work load scheduling, which helps to produce very accurate components and to reduce lead times.
In response to increasing demand for 'clean cut' profiles, especially in 5-6mm thick mild steel, Rojac has recently invested £50k in a nitrogen generation plant, and will be offering nitrogen shrouded clean cutting on all laser cut work including subcontract cutting. The plant is expected to pay for itself within two years.
