Exemplary Companies are Less Likely to be Relocated Overseas
01 May 2005
Many manufacturing companies are bought for their intellectual property, or their access to additional markets, and not necessarily for their capital assets and skilled workforces.
If yours is one of many factories in the corporation, what can you do before you face this situation? "Success is the only guarantee of survival!" says Arthur Richardson of the South West Manufacturing Advisory Service.
Companies that have just been acquired, especially by foreign corporations, are probably at their most vulnerable to being relocated overseas to low wage rate locations.
Corporate business analysts will be hard at work to identify cost saving opportunities.
Your best chance of survival is to show the corporate bosses that you are:
Striving to become a centre of excellence within their business.
You have an established continuous improvement programme.
Your workforce is truly engaged and has taken ownership of day to day operational detail.
You are engaged in a strategic review of your business, identifying opportunities for innovation and introduction of new technology.
The MAS can help you with these programmes with its experience of organising events and workshops. To see what SWMAS is already doing to help the manufacturing community in the South West visit www.swmas.co.uk.
