Friction Welding Service Grows By Acquisition

Thompson is now the UK's largest provider of subcontract friction welding services. In a deal which brings together over 100 years' expertise in the friction welding industry, Thompson has acquired Blacks Equipment and transferred operations from Blacks' former factory in Doncaster to its modern facility in Halesowen.

Thompson's subcontract facility uses a range of modern machines capable of friction welding components for a wide variety of applications including: Light and heavy automotive; Agricultural; Electrical and chemical; Mining and civil engineering; General engineering.

Several key personnel including chairman Roger Black and friction welding shop manager Lee Bromage have joined Thompson's highly-experienced team.

To coincide with the acquisition, Thompson held a series of customer open days which included a tour of its subcontract operation, process development facilities and in-house metallurgical laboratory.

The facility at Hereward Rise has just undergone a £500,000 investment programme.
