Sliding Head Aficionado is Fixed for New Markets

BTMA member and sliding head lathe subcontractor, WML Engineering Ltd has purchased a Miyano BND 51SY fixed head lathe to cater for the needs of its continually changing marketplace.

Swansea based WML has continually turned work away as its current machines were not fully suited to the changing needs of the market - not the case anymore thanks to the installation of the Miyano BND 51SY.

The company works predominantly in the medical, electronic, connector, hydraulic and automotive sectors and WML director Jason Meir comments:

"We've been aware of Miyano machines and their capabilities for some time. With our customer base continually changing its needs, our sliding head machines were unable to meet the 32-50mm diameter range that customers often require. This purchase gives us a 51mm capacity, so it complements our sliding head machines perfectly. The new machine gives us capacity in new size and new batch ranges, which is very important to us."

The procurement of the two inch capacity machine shows the changing requirements of WML customers. The company gets enquiries for a complete package of components and out of the batch, 7 to 8 components will be under 32mm diameter whilst 2-3 parts will be anything up to 50mm diameter.

WML has recently found this trend growing and the Miyano will ensure the subcontractor does not turn this work away in future.
