Gear Services and Capacity Enhanced

Gibbs Gears has invested in new machinery, computers and software to enhance its services and capacity in the production of gear and transmission components for industry.

On the shop floor, the introduction of a new Gleason bevel machine will firstly relieve the overstretched bevel cell, due to its rapid cycle times, and secondly, provide additional capacity for new and large batches.

Gibbs' inspection department has also been improved by the investment of a Wenzel LH54 CNC gear checker.

This investment complements the Reishauer and Niles gear grinding section. Ground gears can now be checked within in a temperature controlled environment then dispatched with lead and profile graphical readout.

Components to be checked to all BS, DIN and AGMA standards include:

Spur, helical and bevel gears; Internal and external splines and serrations;

Single to multistart worms and mating wormwheels; and Sprockets and timing pulleys. Standard and non standard hobs and cutters will also be checked.

Gibbs Gears offers its gear grinding service to other gear manufacturers who do not have these facilities. This business activity has established many long term partnerships within the gear trade.

The introduction of new IT systems, including advanced MRP/MES scheduling software, has enabled Gibbs to quote more accurate lead times for new work. It also provides better management information on work in progress, and feedback on actual delivery performance.
