Technology Upgrade Assisted by Grant Fund

Burcas has been awarded the maximum available grant of £30,000 from the "LiftOff" programme, which is a support and development initiative specifically targeted at West Midlands companies operating in the aerospace industry, funded through the European Regional Development Fund.

The company was awarded the Business Development Grant to enable it to undertake a range of activities to improve productivity and shorten delivery times, while maintaining its current high quality standards.

Activities funded by the grant include the upgrading of existing technologies such as CAD and advanced CNC machine tools, the development of new processes and investigation into the possible use of new materials The objective of the "LiftOff" programme is to ensure that the West Midlands maintains a sustainable and world-class aerospace industry, meeting current demands while at the same time preparing to capitalise on the imminent up-turn in the market.

New aerospace projects, for example the A380, A400M and the Joint Strike Fighter have all been approved and are moving towards commercial realisation. Levels of existing production are expected to increase substantially; by up to 50% in the case of Airbus. First tier suppliers are already seeing this new work coming through, and it is expected that it will swiftly percolate down the supply chain. With the benefit of the "LiftOff" grant, Burcas is well positioned to take advantage of these important commercial opportunities.
