Client Decides Out-Sourcing is Best

Since March, Nitram Vacuum Heat Treatments Co Ltd, Middlesex, has successfully undertaken the heat treatment of tooling and pressings that was previously performed inhouse by a client. The specialised services at Nitram have enabled the client to work with a wider range of materials, dispose of under-used equipment, reduce staffing and maintenance costs and produce a superior product.
Nitram's client had been struggling to keep its in-house heat treatment facility in step with production needs, and with the limitations of the facilities it resulted in the client having to restrict the materials it worked with. It became increasingly difficult and costly for the client to maintain the equipment, and Nitram was frequently called upon to undertake the heat treatment work.
The decision to outsource the heat treatment work to Nitram was finally made at the beginning of this year, and has produced substantial savings.

By using a vacuum, Nitram evacuates air and other residual gases from the chamber before and during the heating and holding periods, which gives a superior surface finish. Items are quenched in neutral gas or oil whilst still under vacuum. Treated items thus suffer less distortion and remain brighter than with traditional heat treatments.
