New Business Model Revives Pressings Firm

Ivan Evans, an ex-foreman at Metal Pressings Group, has turned lossmaking, Willenhall business JT Barker, into an agile, thriving pressworker serving customers in the automotive, electrical, heating and security industries.
"The company had been heavily reliant on GKN and AGCO, so when one of the manufacturers relocated to France, the previous owners couldn't imagine a way forward and started to make redundancies, " explained Ivan.
Backed by support from auto supply chain initiative Accelerate and PDS Consultants, the company, now renamed JTB Pressings Ltd, identified a niche in the marketplace for added value services. Through its work with PDS, JTB has implemented a strategy that will target and exploit these opportunities.
Nine major accounts have already been added as a result of the new business model, with turnover more than doubling and staff figures up by some 30%.
