Line Clearance is Measure of Success

Carlton Laser Services (CLS) is running a set programme of training in the principles and practice of lean manufacturing at its Leicester based factory. The continual improvement training involves all employees from boardroom to shop floor. Progress is being measured by indicators of line clearance and quality of the end product.

Training has been provided by East Midlands Engineering Employers Federation (EEF), with follow up visits to the factory every three weeks to facilitate implementation of the programme. CLS’s employees are actively encouraged to look at ways of eliminating waste; to identify nonvalue adding operations; and to think carefully about a variety of processes which will assist the continuous improvement of performance, leading to the winning of new business.

CLS supplies the automotive industry, point of sale design houses, mechanical handling equipment suppliers, many aspects of the electrical and electronic systems industry, and a variety of OEM manufacturers.
