Trade Visit to Japan Lands Aerospace Order

Specialist precision engineering manufacturer and subcontractor, Burcas, based in Birmingham, is celebrating winning an order from a Japanese aerospace company to provide machining for landing gear parts. This new commission is a direct result of Burcas' participation in the aerospace-focused Trade Mission to Tokyo, at the end of last year.

Moulded Steel Parts Reduce Costs for Aircraft

Metal Injection Mouldings Ltd of Altrincham, Cheshire, has recently produced some of the smallest parts used in the giant Airbus A380. A pair of MIM produced micro-switch arm components replaces 22 existing parts on a de-icing valve. The use of the MIM process has considerably reduced the cost of purchasing, stocking, controlling and assembling these units.

Surface Dressing Service Sees Significant Growth

Rolls Royce precision polishing foundry at Derby - a centre of excellence for Trent engines - has selected Exhall-based Dynamic Profiles to finish the turbine blades for their next generation Trent 1000 engine being used on Boeing's new 787 Dreamliner jet, due to enter service in 2008. John Gibbons, managing director, said that since March 2005, his company had achieved a 30% growth with the need for an additional seven jobs.

Aero Engine Expo Doubles in Size

Following the record attendance at the show in 2005, the Aero Engine Expo has more than doubled in size and is relocating to the much larger Earls Court exhibition centre for the 2006 event at the end of September. Once again, the Expo will play host to the world's aero engine manufacturers and their customers and suppliers. As in 2005, the show will be a dual event, running alongside the Gas Turbine O&M Expo - incorporating manufacturers, suppliers and operators in the industrial turbine market.

Contract Awarded for Ceramic Sub-assemblies

Leading manufacturer of electro ceramic material solutions, Morgan Electro Ceramics (MEC), has been awarded a manufacturing contract by Smiths Aerospace. MEC has been supplying Smiths Aerospace with its piezoelectric ceramic sub-assembly for fuel-level sensors since the early 90's but will now also be responsible for the manufacture of the full sensors at its facilities in the UK.
