£1.5m Invested in Focus on Added Value, Pays off

In the past three years Barker Collins Engineering has undergone changes that have increased turnover from £0.75m to £2.2m with a full order book. £1.5m has been invested in new plant, and the company has narrowed its focus from general engineering to high precision complex fabricated and machined components for a wide range of industries including marine engines, ships' couplings and gear boxes up to 5t in weight.

A new temperature controlled environment has been installed for CNC CMM to measure ±3 microns typically over 2m 3. In addition to new plant, much of the existing machinery has been upgraded to high tolerance, low volume CNC machines.

The company's recent success is the result of an MBO led by Chris Carter, managing director, and shows that his faith in the skilled and committed workforce, and opportunities to add value, has paid off.

Founded in 1986, Barker Collins Engineering specializes in six axis CNC horizontal boring, five face CNC milling, CNC universal ram milling and fabrication to BS287 &288.

The carbon steel fabrication shop undertakes all types of fabrications from small simple components up to 5t single lifts.

The stainless steel facility, situated within an isolated area to eliminate contamination, is dedicated to all types of stainless steel fabrication by both TIG and MIG methods.
