Metallurgical Services Offered Worldwide

A year after the management buyout at Atlantic Engineering, the company is continuing to provide specialist engineering services to the marine industry in manufacture, refurbishment and metallurgical laboratory services. The metallurgists at Atlantic have also developed expertise in other industries such as aerospace, automotive, oil and gas, and power generation, and have built up an extensive portfolio of customers in the UK and abroad.
Atlantic's metallurgical services date back to the 1960's when they supported the Blue Funnel Shipping Line and both their offshore and towage companies, Ocean Inchcape and Cory Towage. At that time the fleet capacity was in excess of 200 vessels.
Offering a 'Failure Investigation and Expert Witness Service'world wide, investigations range from a single item to the total constructive loss of plant and equipment.
Consultancy services are also offered in areas such as material selection, corrosion, welding, heat treatment, surface finishing and nondestructive and destructive testing.
Recent instructions have included: Rudder stock failure, leading to loss of charter; Lashing failures, leading to a substantial loss of cargo; and the Failure of a dock gate due to fracture fatigue.
A wide selection of smaller items, such as engine components and pumps arrive at the laboratory on a daily basis for failure analysis to be carried out in house.
