Opportunities for AutoSupply Chain Explored

Over 200 delegates from 100 companies, academic institutions and industry support bodies engaged in a spot of 'speed dating' this month, at an event designed to encourage innovative and collaborative working between the supply chain, academia and high profile OEMs, such as Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and General Motors.

At the Accelerate-backed 'AutoLink 2006', over 500 one-to-one meetings were completed as companies went in search of new technology and projects, and struck business deals that would normally have taken over six months to complete under normal circumstances.

Professor Peter Cooke of Nottingham University Business School talked in great length about the future of manufacturing in the UK and issues surrounding the impact of the single currency on car pricing, strategic development of outsourcing, German manufacturers scaling down operations in Western Europe and the sudden lure of Romania.

Now in its tenth year of operation, Accelerate has grown into one of the most successful supply chain initiatives in the UK. In addition to exhibiting at the Motorshow in July, the initiative will also be hosting its biggest ever Supplier Awards ceremony on the 8th November at the ICC in Birmingham.
