Stock and Machining Specialist Fires off Orders for Replica Cannons

In January, Leeds Bronze completed a working replica 1813 cannon to be fired during the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations on 17 June 2006. Originally produced as a casting, the replica 4ft long, 2 1/2" bore, cannon was machined from stock tube by the specialist manufacturer of precision bronze bearings and bushes. Further orders for ceremonial cannons are to follow.

Leeds Bronze was commissioned to machine the item from stock tube by Lt.Col. Simon West of the Royal Military College of Science Shrivenham, who realised that casting the replica cannon would not be the most cost effective method.

Leeds Bronze has extensive machining facilities, operating 24 hours per day producing high volume parts for OEM's, to one off parts for emergency breakdowns. Now the UK's largest stockholder and distributor of bronze and copper based alloy, the company became a specialist material stockholder in 1993 when the group's stock merger complemented the already substantial stock held at Leeds for the machined parts business.

The traditional ranges of phosphor and leaded bronzes have now been complimented by extensive stocks of Aluminium Bronzes, including AB2, CA104, BS B23 and NES833 (DEF STAN 02-833). These alloys are all fully certified and traceable, including ultrasonic test where applicable.
