Rapid Tooling For Complex Parts Relies on Master Mouldmakers

Omega Plastics continues its revival with the announcement that in the past two months it has quoted for more than £1 million of business
from potential customers here in the UK. Having been taken out of administration, following investment by a trio of north east-based engineers, the specialist in rapid aluminium mouldmaking and lowvolume moulding of complex plastic parts is turning its fortunes around.
Managing director, Gordon Styles says: “'Our message to customers is simple - we make aluminium moulds and mould parts, we do it very well, and we do it very quickly. What we have achieved in the past two month just goes to prove that there is business to be won here in the UK. We are hopeful that a large proportion of the £1 million of business that we have quoted for will result in business for Omega Plastics.”
Omega is concentrating its sales message on the value it places in the four highly skilled Master Mouldmakers that it employs along with the major, ongoing investment programme that will see the arrival of several new machine tools, other capital equipment and additional resources that will ensure quality and service remain high and lead times are reduced to the minimum possible.
“By delivering this investment programme we fully intend to be in a position to compete head on with the challenges posed to the UK-based toolmaking industry by low-cost manufacturing economies such as China,” says Gordon Styles.
“We will be recruiting additional Master Mouldmakers in the near future and extend a challenge to anyone looking for a new career in mouldmaking to contact me to discuss their potential. We know that we have to attract the best in the business and the salary package will reflect that, with a basic of £36,000, which is well above the average for this industry.
“We will be spending a lot of time and money investing further in our workforce, as well as investing in new and advanced equipment.”
