Sparking Capability Updates for Motorsport

Surrey-based Delen Tooling has acquired its fifth Sodick EDM, an AQ35L spark erosion model featuring the latest linear drive technology. The machine will help the company produce titanium components for an array of motorsport customers.

In the past nine years the company has invested in four Sodick EDM machines (three wire and one 1KC hole drill). Now, to improve its spark erosion capability, Delen has acquired the AQ35L.

“We needed to update our sparking technology to embrace CNC,” says managing director Phil Brown. “It will help us fulfil our titanium machining commitments to our Formula One customers. Titanium is notoriously difficult to spark erode – it requires a lot of power to blind spark, plunge spark or achieve a decent form.

The company produces high precision (both prototype & medium quantity) components for the motor racing and aerospace industries.
