    New Machines Selected for Stress Free EDM Parts

    Sheen Spark, the Birmingham based EDM subcontractor for aerospace, medical and motorsport components, has recently installed a Charmilles Roboform CNC Spark Eroder and a Charmilles Robofill 440cc CNC wire eroder. 
     

    Design Contract Won for Innovative Medical Device

    Hungerford based product design company Triteq Ltd has won a contract to assist with the electronic design of a new probe capable of early detection of cervical cancer. The company will contribute its knowledge of volume manufacturing, test and quality engineering to the insights of Medipex, the medical technology specialists who created the first prototype probes.   

    30m Micro Components Shipped in Test Tube

    Building on the success of its photoelectro formed (PEF) nickel microparts, Tecan, this month, shipped an order for 30 million expoy micro parts - in a single test tube. Designers of micro-sized components and assemblies are increasingly looking for an alternative to metal parts, particularly for medical and pharmaceutical applications. 
     

    New Biomedical Surface Treatments Extend Life of Hip and Knee Implants

    Cambridge based Tecvac Ltd featured new surface engineering solutions for metal-on-metal interactions in hip and knee implants and prostheses at the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Congress in Glasgow last month. This included a new range of advanced ultra-low friction coatings that ensure high biocompatibility, extreme stability and extended periods of free movement.   

    Devices Given High Levels of EMI Shielding

    Applied Coating Technologies Ltd has introduced two new conductive  paints for EMI (electro-magnetic interference) shielding, primarily for use by medical and defence equipment manufacturers who are required to meet the demands of increased environmental legislation. ACT specialises in the application of cosmetic and functional coatings for plastic and metal products.   

    Lathe Increases Capacity for Bigger Contracts

    Staffordshire Precision Engineering, in Newcastle-under-Lyme, has invested £90,000 in a new Daewoo Puma lathe to improve lead times and increase capacity for bigger contracts. The purchase is part of a wider lean manufacturing initiative by joint MDs Phil and Gary Smith, to improve productivity by removing secondary ops.   

    EDM Investment Meets Tighter Tolerances on Injection Mould Cores

    Slieve Foy Tool and Die Ltd, a specialist manufacturer of core and cavity inserts for injection mould shops serving the medical industry, has opted to buy the latest AQ35L die sink EDM from Sodi-Tech, the first Sodick model in the firm’s workshop.
