Large Tube Borer is Now Operational

Keetons’ latest plant development project is a great success.

The recently installed tube boring machine has now started full production, and is proving to be a massive asset to the company

Boasting a 1200mm diameter chuck, and able to accommodate tubular components from 2m to 10m in length with bores from 60mm to over 600mm diameter, this is the largest of the company’s 4 tube boring machines. The machine also has a 500mm diameter hollow spindle to handle extra long jobs.

Technical sales manager Alan Holliday explains “This machine development was essential is allowing the company to adapt to market changes and growing demand, whilst maintaining our existing capabilities”. Keetons have always strived to maintain their position as the UK’s most diverse deep hole boring company. Alan continues,”We have already secured several contracts for this machine, and are very confident that the demand for this machine will continue to grow. Thankfully we have a fifth machine of this type in storage in case the demand outstretches our current capacity”.

This follows numerous other developments at the company since their relocation in 2004, including the introduction of a second 8m honing machine. One of their deep hole boring machines which bores solid bars and forgings is receiving some special attention too. The machine can currently bore jobs up to 6.5m long, but has a 4m bed extension planned to increase the number of machines with capacity of 10m plus.

Despite increasing their capacity towards the larger end of the spectrum, and although the company rarely bores items less than 1000mm long, Keetons still retain their ability to machine smaller items. Their smallest borer can handle bores of 20mm to 70mm diameter in lengths of up to 4 metres. Fully aware that market forces will continue to change, they also have a couple of extra machines tucked away for future development.
