Measuring Success
20 Jun 2007
A Taylor is one of 400 regional engineering or manufacturing companies provided with measuring solutions by Leeds College of Technology’s Metrology Centre.
In Taylor’s case, the Centre was able to deploy specialist surface measuring equipment for a specific precision component for the oil industry.
Said David Minskip: “This equipment was so useful, we’ve now invested in our own version.”
Adviser Roy Mackin, from the Metrology Centre, said, ”The measurement project we undertook for Taylor’s was designed to enhance surface finish and quality for an exacting component, thus avoiding future problems out on oil production sites.
“This is just one example of a wide range of practical and advisory services we handle, including in some cases, the complete re-design of a product. The Centre houses a range of equipment that can be deployed or loaned, with some pieces valued at £60,000.
”With financial support through the Manufacturing Advisory Service, we can provide high value expertise at minimal cost to engineering companies in Leeds.”
