CNC Machining

The CNC Skills Challenge Begins

The best of the UK’s engineering sector have entered the 2007 SkillENG competitions being organised by the Institute of Engineering Technology.

Ambitious industrial technicians, electricians and welders in employment, training or education, have entered competitions in Aircraft Maintenance, CNC Milling, CNC Turning, Industrial Control, Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics and Welding.

The competitions aim to test the technical aptitudes of participants, who must work to a brief within an allotted time scale. Skills competitions offer budding engineering professionals the opportunity to have their talents recognised and to benchmark their abilities against their peers. Winners from this year’s competitions may be selected to represent the UK at the 2009 WorldSkills competition, taking place in Calgary, Canada. WorldSkills is the largest skills event on the planet, and consists of a four-day competition where 48 countries meet and compete in 40 different skills, ranging from cabinet making to web design.

SkillENG is a committee dedicated to celebrating the abilities of engineering professionals in the UK through a system of regional and national competitions, and by selecting and training engineering competitors for the WorldSkills  Competition. It is supported by the Department for Education & Skills through UK Skills, a notfor- profit organisation that exists to establish and sustain skills competitions throughout the UK.
