Future of Metrology
01 Mar 2007
Major technical and global changes in the metrology market are having a profound impact on the development of metrology solutions as equipment and processes are increasingly being designed to deal with very specific manufacturing requirements, while being operated by non-specialist staff, says Vision Engineering's director of sales and marketing, Mark Curtis.
“The whole metrology field is becoming more international and these days we are just as likely to find that our customers in India and China have the same demands for high quality and precision, as their European counterparts.
At the same time, production-related metrology is increasingly passing out of the hands of specialist metrologists and is now being undertaken by lineproduction engineers, many of
whom have only a passing knowledge of the science of measurement”. Mr Curtis concludes: “The challenge which therefore faces all of us in the future is how to provide our customers not only with a range of products to satisfy their needs but to provide the technical and marketing infrastructure that transforms those products into solutions – wherever in the world they are being used.”
