Design director draws on past experience for new post

VULCAN SFM has taken on Paul Mockford as its new design director.

He will call on his considerable experience in the offshore industry, structural analysis and steel manufacturing for the challenging role at Vulcan which is Sheffield Forgemasters’ (SFIL) specialist product management, procurement and design company.

He joins a team of nine, including engineers, project managers, designers and contract managers, who will build on the reputation of SFIL’s dedicated offshore engineering team, to provide ingenious and adaptive engineering solutions for all industries.

Paul said: “I was looking for a job that would make best use of my skills and experience and this position fitted the bill. Vulcan is a new, exciting venture and offers a real challenge for me. It is an extremely interesting and exciting time to be involved with Sheffield Forgemasters as it looks to move forward and diversify into new markets.

Paul comes to Vulcan after working as an associate for consulting engineers Giffords in York for the past five years. Previous to that he was technical director at McCalls Special Products in Sheffield.

Civil engineering graduate Paul started his career as a structural engineer in the offshore oil industry working for McDermott Engineering both in their design office and at their fabrication yard, for Bechtel in their offshore design team and for Fairfield Mabey on the strengthening of the Severn Crossing.
