Major Investment Made In Advanced Laser Cutting Technology
06 May 2007
In the latest phase of a two year, £2 million investment programme, the Team Valley based Responsive Engineering has installed new £0.5 million laser technology at its Streamline precision cutting operation.
The investment at Streamline complements similar investment already made or planned at the other Responsive businesses, Kingsway, Weldex and Pressex which provide a range of precision engineering, welding, pressing and assembly services.
The company’s factory has been extended to incorporate the new flat bed laser cutting equipment, which will expand capacity, improve productivity and enhance the company’s competitive position in new markets for precision engineered components and metal fabrications.
The new installation comprises a Trumpf 50/40 6kW flat bed laser-cutting machine with a maximum cutting thickness of 15mm for aluminium and 25mm for stainless steel. This machine complements two existing laser cutting machines and three water jet cutting machines that together give Streamline the biggest metal cutting capacity in the North East.
Responsive recently reported sales in excess of £8.25 million for 2005/06, representing a 50% increase over the last two years. Over this period the company has taken its workforce to 110 and anticipates further growth with up to 20 new jobs as further planned investments in new machine tool technology are introduced.
Responsive’s customer list already includes Airbus, BAE, Siemens and Exxon and the expansion is aimed at developing further opportunities in other key market sectors.
Responsive Engineering was recently named Tyneside and Northumberland Manufacturing Company of the Year in the Journal’s North East Business Awards.
