Surface Treatments & Finishing

Largest UK hard anodising specialist celebrates 60 years

Brita Finish Ltd trading as Aluminium Surface Engineering (ASE) based in Coventry, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. ASE has the largest hard anodising capacity in the UK, and was the first company in England to carry out the hard anodising process in 1949.

ASE specialises in the surface treatment of aluminium and its alloys, as well as magnesium and titanium. The company occupies 40,000 sq feet of processing area, and has tank capacities up to 3m length x 1.3m deep x 0.9m wide.

ASE can now offer Chrome Free conversion coatings to meet ROHS, ELV, and WEEE directives. This environmentally friendly chemical process produces a protective conversion coating on aluminium and its alloys. ASE can also provide a non-hexavalent chrome coating suitable for aerospace alloys and also for the treatment of castings.

Other processes carried out at the Coventry site include Nituff PTFE impregnation of hard anodised films, sulphuric anodising, chromic acid anodising, and Alocrom conversion coatings.

Led by current International Hard Anodising Association president, John Alksnitis, ASE services all industry sectors including aerospace, medical, automotive, food processing, electronics, telecommunications and precision engineering. John has also sat on MOD and BSI boards for standardisation and specification.
