Team Valley-based Responsive Engineering Group has used its laser cutting expertise to produce 3m x 3m prototype acoustic panels for the House of Letters and Arts, a new €50 million cultural centre in Athens.
The completed panels are now in Grenoble, France for testing and each panel has been precision engineered and shaped at Responsive’s factory to ensure that the pitch, density and surface finish meet exacting acoustic performance levels.
The company worked closely with leading acoustics’ expert and the project’s London based architects to get the design of the prototypes right before going to production.
The project calls for high specification internal finishes, including the use of bronze effect wall and ceiling panels with complex shapes and configurations to meet the project’s aesthetic and acoustic demands.
Peter Bernard, managing director of Responsive Engineering, said: “This is a very prestigious project for us and shows our growing capacity to work on major international architectural projects.
The Responsive Engineering Group brings together the businesses of Streamline, Kingsway, Weldex and Pressex to provide water jet, laser cutting, precision engineering, welding, pressing and assembly services. It employs 115 people and last year initiated a £2 million investment programme to expand its subcontract engineering services.
