Aquajet raises its profile

A contract cutting company in Coventry has invested £405,000 in new state-of-the-art machinery and larger premises. AquaJet Profiles Ltd has moved to a new 10,000 sq ft site in Charter Avenue, Canley, and unveiled a £240,000 water jet machining centre that can cut anything from rock to 10” thick titanium plate.

The investment has been made possible with funding from regional development agency Advantage West Midlands in the form of a £81,000 Selective Finance for Investment in England (SFIE) grant.

The move from its old 3,000 sq ft base at the Windmill Industrial Estate in Allesley comes as the company has seen a 55 per cent increase in turnover this year to £400,000.

Chairman Des Willis said: “This is an exciting time for the company as we want to expand. We plan to have four machines in place within 18 months and our new premises are more than three times bigger. Our new machinery coupled with the upgrade of a robotic waterjet cutting installation bought two years ago means we are in a position to provide a first-class service to clients in the defence, oil, water and ceramic industries.

“The funding from Advantage West Midlands is most welcome and has played a pivotal role in triggering the next phase of our company’s development.”

A recent notable contract win for AquaJet was being asked to cut granite and marble “rocks” for a man-made river which featured at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show.

Steve Hines, Grants Case Officer for Advantage West Midlands, said: “AquaJet Profiles has established itself as one of the most ‘go ahead’ contract cutting companies in the region and is clearly making best use of its state-of-the-art machinery to open up new business opportunities.

“One of the agency’s key priorities is to make sure such companies have access to appropriate finance for growth and SFIE funding can often be the last piece in the financial jigsaw to trigger capital expenditure that leads to long-term improvements in productivity, skills and employment.”
