Lean provides opportunity to explore new directions

Brighton Sheet Metal is currently reaping the benefits of lean manufacturing thanks to a Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) South East training programme. The company has already achieved a number of short term goals, including a significant reduction in raw material stocks and a reduction in the time required to load our CNC punching machines
One of the UK’s leading specialists in subcontract precision sheet metal products and a high technology supplier of value-added engineering solutions, Brighton Sheet Metal contacted MAS South East after investigating the advantages of implementing lean manufacturing.
MAS South East Specialist, David Kilroy, enrolled the whole team, including Bill Taylor, managing director, onto an open Lean Facilitator Programme that highlighted the tools and techniques required to implement lean and empower individuals to become change agents – ensuring effective, sustainable lean implementation.
David Kilroy said: “The programme has allowed Brighton Sheet Metal to gain a real understanding of the advantages of implementing lean into everyday production processes. MAS South East has given Brighton Sheet Metal the opportunity to explore new directions using the trained skills of internal agents now responsible for continuous improvement.”
The Lean Facilitator programme has successfully allowed Brighton Sheet Metal to implement lean across the whole business, and through continued support from David, the company is now working towards total operational excellence.
Originally set up by the Department for Trade and Industry (DTI), MAS is now a programme of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).
