  • Latest project creates world first in large format displays

    Shearline, the integrated engineering and manufacturing service based in Cambridgshire, has just completed the production and manufacture of the world’s biggest ‘ITrans’ Modular digital display system for AIM listed Screen Technology, a specialist developer of large format display screens.

    Over 2,300 pre-arranged meet the buyer meetings were organised in 2005, for delegates at SIFAO the International conference and networking event for the automotive sector. The organisers of the biannual event expect 2007 to be even more successful when it takes place in Brittany, France on 21-22 November. 

  • Cracking down on solvent abuse

    Many manufacturing companies in the UK are still using trichloroethylene and similar solvents for degreasing. If they continue to do so after 31st October this year, they could face prosecution under the Solvent Emissions Regulations 2004.

    Leading aluminium diecaster Kaye Engineering, trading as Kaye Presteigne, has purchased zinc diecasting specialists Pressurecast. The acquisition enables the company to offer customers a single source for all their casting needs.  

  • Diploma champion for employers praises model school-company links

    Sir Alan Jones, chairman of Sector Skills Council, Semta, and chairman emeritus of Toyota UK, today visited a West Midlands school to see an award-winning education/industry partnership in action. The scheme is being used as a model for the local delivery of the new Diplomas for 14-19 year olds which Sir Alan is championing on behalf of employers nationwide.

    EMO Hannover 2007, the six-day flagship metalworking exhibition, ended to a shower of accolades. More exhibitors, more visitors, more international flair, despite our having shortened the exhibition by two days. The next EMO will take place from 5 to 10 October 2009 in Milan, Italy.

  • Projects that improve efficiency of fossil fuels to receive boost

    Projects boosting the burning efficiency of fossil fuels are now eligible to be registered under the United Nations-backed Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which allows projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries and contribute to sustainable development to earn certified emission reduction credits (CERs).

The research coincides with the launch of 'Wise Council', an online service from Jobcentre Plus that recognises by 2025, half of the UK's adult population will be aged 50 and over.
