UK aluminium diecaster acquires zinc casting operation
18 Sep 2007
Leading aluminium diecaster Kaye Engineering, trading as Kaye Presteigne, has purchased zinc diecasting specialists Pressurecast. The acquisition enables the company to offer customers a single source for all their casting needs.
The purchase of Pressurecast, which has a turnover of around £1.25m and produces castings from a few grams up to 1500g in weight, brings zinc diecasting back to the mid-Wales foundry.
Kaye Presteigne has moved all the primary plant from Pressurecast’s Windsor foundry and will continue to trade its zinc casting operation under the Pressurecast name.
“This is a very positive move for Kaye Presteigne as not only does it enable us to expand our services, it also retains the capacity and capability within the UK,” said Peter Neagle, managing director of Kaye Engineering Ltd. “We have a massive design, manufacturing and machining resource here at Kaye Presteigne that we can bring to the benefit of our new zinc customers saving them development time and money, and the move brings the ability to support the zinc casting requirements of our aluminium customers simplifying their supplier base.”
Kaye Presteigne combines a wealth of expertise in both high pressure and gravity diecasting processes as well as a full range of machining and assembly operations.
The high pressure foundry operates 16 machines from 200 to 750 tonne and produces castings ranging in weight from 5g to 5kg. In addition the gravity casting facility includes a fully automated in line gravity plant, capable of producing more than one million castings per year.
The company has always been at the forefront of innovative advances in manufacturing techniques, building a strong reputation for technological developments within the diecasting industry.
There has been a Diecasting Foundry on the same site at Presteigne for more than 60 years. It started in 1940, producing zinc castings and, in 1948, was acquired by the Brockhouse Group which enabled considerable expansion into aluminium casting, and machining.
In 1979 the foundry was re-equipped with Italpresse diecasting machines and in 1980 was further augmented with the addition of the gravity diecasting facility.
Then, during the 1990’s the existing 200 tonne and 400 tonne machines were replaced and the foundry area was doubled with the addition of an automated gravity diecasting line and three 750 tonne diecasting cells. Also, in 1999, the new machine shop was commissioned by the then new owners JL French Automotive Castings Inc.
In 2006, when the parent company experienced trading difficulties, the Presteigne division was sold and subsequently reverted to the original company name of Kaye Presteigne.
Now, with its expertise in both aluminium and zinc diecasting, precision machining and assembly, the company is focused on developing long term relationships with its customers in all sectors of industry.
