Alcoa forging lightweight alloy wheels for Reventón supercar
06 Aug 2008
Alcoa has been selected by Automobili Lamborghini to supply forged alloy wheels for its one million Euro Reventón car. With a limited production run, Lamborghini required the flexibility of Alcoa's manufacturing expertise to develop a lightweight wheel to complement the unique appearance and performance of the Reventón.
“The new Lamborghini Reventón is anticipated to be one of the most exclusive performance vehicles ever produced,” says David Yates, marketing manager for Alcoa Europe. "Alcoa worked very closely with Lamborghini to ensure we meet all of the requirements of this highly exclusive programme.”
The Reventón’s wheels not only look good, but are also underpinned by Alcoa’s weight-saving expertise. Forged alloy wheels can significantly reduce the car’s weight and provide a more dynamic driving experience. The high strength of Alcoa’s wheels allow them to save weight – up to 20% compared to a cast aluminium wheel.
The Reventón is named after a famous fighting bull from the 1940s, and its exterior is inspired by the F-117 Stealth Fighter with its faceted surfacing. Alcoa will supply the forged directional-specific 18”x9” front and 18”x13” rear wheels, with each undergoing extensive machining and finishing resulting in lightweight construction and unmatched strength and durability. The uniquely styled wheels are finished in Lamborghini Bright Black and fitted with carbon fibre “winglets” to complement the Reventón’s edgy exterior surfacing. The wheels are engraved with “Alcoa Forged” to identify the brand and forged production process.
