Protool invests in winning Objet lessons
01 Feb 2008
Tool maker Protool Manufacturing is investing further in its rapid prototyping services by adopting more technology from the award-winning company, Objet Geometries Ltd.
Both Protool and Objet exhibited at EuroMold 07, the international exhibition for the plastic mould and toolmaking industry last month, giving them the opportunity to meet directly with each other. At the end of the show, Objet was awarded the coveted EuroMold Innovation Award for its Connex500 2007 Innovation system.
Protool uses Objet's Eden rapid prototyping technology at its Havant base. Director Steve Hall says, '”The 16 micron accuracy in the Eden technology – and its incredible speed in polymer jetting an accurate product model in minutes – gives us a real edge in quoting and fulfilling orders. It also enables the client to make speedy and accurate decisions, providing them with what they need to know.”
Now, Protool can also supply models of moulds and products in Objet's new resin TangoPlus FullCure930, which expands the Tango family of rubber-like materials. The new grade offers exceptional elongation at break, excellent toughness and durability and high resistance to tearing. It also addresses a broad range of applications requiring rubber-like flexibility and durability, such as gaskets and seals, hoses, athletic footwear, toys and more. “We are receiving a lot of interest from these markets,” says Hall, “and this new material gives us an opportunity to show our clients yet more manufacturing options.”
The new Objet material offers a combination of mechanical properties that sets a new standard in rubber-like performance. At 218%, the elongation at break of TangoPlus is more than double that of any other rapid prototyping material available on the market. It is highly resistant to tearing and has a Ross Flex measurement in excess of 150,000. It therefore offers outstanding resistance to deterioration, making it ideal for models that are likely to be exposed to long use or rough handling.
TangoPlus FullCure930, a semi-translucent elastomer, builds on the success of the market-proven TangoGray and TangoBlack materials, which also offer specific levels of elasticity. With the addition of TangoPlus to the Tango family, Objet now offers the widest range of rubber-like materials in the rapid prototyping and 3-D modeling market. “TangoPlus is a result of Objet’s continued focus on offering our customers the most versatile solution for all 3-D modelling needs,” said Adina Shorr, CEO of Objet Geometries. “By expanding our range of materials, we enable more applications, particularly in the areas of communication models and functional prototypes for applications requiring rubber-like flexibility.”
Meanwhile Protool's successful showing at EuroMold 07 continues to bear fruit in the business partnerships developed there – and in the enquiries now being turned into deals. Steve Hall says, “It did our business and company profile a lot of good to exhibit at EuroMold 07 and to be part of the community there.”
The new Protool website spells out the company expertise that is now available in rapid tooling; production tooling; 3D machining; prototype parts; offshore tooling; pu components and fixtures. A special FTP portal for Protool clients is also available on the website together with full contact details for Protool. The company, co-founded by Steve Hall and Spencer Carter in 2003, is now posting annual sales in excess of £1million and currently employs eleven people on a full 24/7 production system.
