Remploy wins electronics manufacturing award
30 Jul 2008
Remploy Electronics has been recognised in the Yorkshire Productivity Awards 2008, winning the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) category. Remploy’s Bolton manufacturing site was nominated based on the number of its staff achieving level 2 NVQs in Electronics and won the category against competition from 20 other finalists from across the north of England.
The Bolton site is a centre of excellence for printed circuit board (PCB) manufacturing, assembly and test. The factory has received significant investment in SMT production, wave soldering and AOI test equipment during the past two years.
Remploy has worked with Yorkshire Productivity, through its Virtual College programme, for five years. During this time more than 40 staff have successfully completed NVQs through Yorkshire Productivity’s enhanced qualification for electronics manufacturers.
Remploy places considerable emphasis on the training and development of its employees and aims for a minimum level of 5% of each employee’s time to be devoted to education and training. This target is consistently exceeded, reaching 8.6% in 2007.
At the presentation ceremony, Bolton Remploy Manager, Carl Lawton, said: “The responsibility we have to the development of our employees has a direct impact on the service we are able to offer our customers. Investing in our people, alongside the latest manufacturing equipment, benefits their careers and our customers’ business. This award emphasises our ongoing commitment to excellence in production.”
