Investment helps Staffs cope with demand

Staffordshire Precision Engineering has invested over £100,000 in new machinery to help meet unprecedented demand for its services. Turnover rose 12.5% in 2007-08, following an increase of 11% the previous year, and the company is on target to record another 12% rise based on the results of the first quarter of 2008-09.

The Newcastle-under-Lyme-based company has purchased a new lathe – a Doosan Lynx 220LM – and a new Bridgeport GX600 CNC machining centre to meet its increasing workload.

The continued growth has encouraged Joint MDs Phil and Gary Smith to add a mezzanine floor to the company’s Redmine Close premises, and they are also looking to expand the workforce later in the year.

Phil Smith said: “The new lathe and machining centre are worth £105,000 and follow quickly on the heels of our other investments in new technology – we have spent £400,000 on new machines in the last three years alone.

“This is in line with our reinvestment plan and helps to ensure we can deliver reduced lead times and increase efficiency.”
